May 25, 2009. Joseph D. White, age 65 of Potomac, MD, formerly a resident of Bergen County, NJ and Geneva, NY, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at home after a long illness.
Joe graduated from DeSales High School, Geneva, NY in 1961, and Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1967 and a Master of Science degree in 1969. He worked for Automatic Data Processing for over 30 years, retiring as the Vice President of Finance in 2002.
Joe was a pioneer in the medical and patient advocacy communities, receiving one of the country’s earliest kidney transplants in 1965, which functioned for 19 years, and then another in 1988, 21 years to the day prior to his death. Joe was a very active volunteer with the American Association of Kidney Patients (aakp>, serving on their Board of Directors for many years and as their President for six years. He was also Treasurer and Board member of the New York Organ Donor Network for many years.
Joe is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Dorothy Brooks White; his daughter Suzanne, her husband David Keyser, and their sons Jackson and Harrison, of Washington, D.C.; and his daughter Barbara and her husband William Nolan, of Annapolis, MD.
Friends and family may call on Thursday, from 6 to 8pm at the Finger Lakes Family Funeral Home, 45 High St., Geneva, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 29, 2009 at 10 am at St. Stephens Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joseph D. White Scholarship Fund at DeSales High School, Geneva, NY.
